Get Paper is a handmade paper and products making company based on the edge of Kathmandu, Nepal.
It uses waste products like waste paper, waste cotton from garments factories, agricultural waste such as banana stem, straws and corn husks. The paper is converted into various products such as greeting cards, notebooks, albums, paper bags, paper boxes and many more products.
GPI is operating with the following objectives:
- Recycling paper with traditional handmade craft
- Employment opportunities mainly for unskilled women
- Participation of employees
- Fair wages
- Proper working conditions
- Health care, education focused on girls education not only for the team of GPI but to other communities as well.
There are 67 women and 58 men employed on a full time basis. Beside this in the year 2003-04 more than 700 women and 35 men worked on a part time basis.
Apart from a better wage, there are food support, medical insurance, provident fund, leave with pay, bonus, maternity leave, children education allowances, dress allowances and production allowances available for the permanent members of the company.
25% profit of the company is utilized for community development, which is focussed on girls education, school development, AIDS awareness, environment awareness and protection and income generation activities.
We were awarded Global Business Council Award, 1998 from Glaxo, UK in recognition of our AIDS awareness activities.
GPI is a member of IFAT.
